Bankathon CEE: Interview with Janos Pereczes from CEE Fintech

„I’m excited about FinTech because it enhances user experience in banking and makes banks wake up from their 10-year long sleep“, said Janos Pereczes in his Bankathon interview. That’s why hackathons are important. They could make banks realise how FinTech startups can help them develop.

Short personal profile

Name: Janos Pereczes
Position: Co-founder and MKB Fintechlab, Managing Director
I’m excited about FinTech because … it enhances user experience in banking and makes banks wake up from their 10-year long sleep.

Have you ever taken part in a Hackathon? What are you most looking forward to?

Yes, but it was a business hackathon which I dislike. For startups and corporations looking for innovative technology solutions, technology support and APIs are must to provide during a hackathon. I am looking forward to see how it enhances the hackathon experience.

What was your primary motivation for taking part as a Bankathon supporter? What insights are you hoping for?

With my banking innovation lab, we are also planning to organize hackathons in the CEE region and I want to know the best practices.

Main insights I am hoping to get out of the event:
–    What is an optimal team?
–    Should you provide themes or problems or let the teams hack and create?
–    How deep should the support with APIs be?
–    What kind of mentors should you provide to the teams?

The Bankathon is being held for the first time in Austria. What kind of positive impact do you think it could have?

It could make banks realise how FinTech startups can help them develop.

If you could give the teams one last tip before they start, what would you say?

Always think with the head of your customer – be it the bank, an end-user, anybody. If you solve a real problem for them, they will use and pay for your services and products.
