Bankathon # 6: RatePAY wins with #swopp
15,000 euros in prize money, 30 hours of coding time, 24 pitches, 16 sponsors, 7 APIs, 5 winners, 4 theme tracks, 3 days, 2 photographers, 1 camera team and the world’s best barista …
… – all told, that’s exactly what you need to describe the sixth Bankathon, which returned to Frankfurt, with interest in the FinTech and banking hackathon continuing unabated. With the TechQuartier as a location for coding and the Handelsblatt ‘Bank Summit’ as a partner for the final pitches, the orga team was able to offer participants and guests exactly what the Bankathon stands for: a platform where the traditional banking world meet industry newcomers at eye level and have meaningful interactions. Here is a detailed recap of the event including teams.
Teams & Tracks
The Berlin-tested and approved concept of the themed tracks has continued in Frankfurt. The participating teams were able to choose between “Identity powered by Verimi”, “Payments powered by Visa”, “Investments powered by apoBank” and “Online Banking powered by figo”. The 7-member jury nominated one winner per track and selected the overall winner of the Bankathon.
“Identity powered by Verimi” was won by the CreditLinks team with their product, ContractGuru. In the 30 allotted hours, they developed an app which enables digital, and thus in many respects efficient, contract closing. Identity verification via the Verimi API happens simultaneously with logging in, so that, as one example, users can “simply” create a rental agreement according to the building block concept, and just have to sign digitally.
In the “Payments powered by Visa” track, “Mister Piota” won with a monetizable IoT solution. The basic idea: to pay separately for individual services. A simple example: Person X books a hotel room and pays a basic amount for the use of bed and bath. The user himself decides whether he wants to spend 10 cents/hour on light. The idea behind it – while perhaps a bit far-fetched – worked very well in the pitch. The team used the Visa and Gini APIs.
HouseMatch is the name of the project that won the “Investments powered by apoBank” track. The Interhyp AG’s team’s idea is to enable the user to quickly and easily find and buy the perfect property for their personal investment.
The “Online Banking powered by figo” track produced two winners. The RatePAY team won the track with swopp. The idea behind swopp is to offer human cash machines in cash-loving Germany. Using the app, the user can find other nearby users who can spontaneously help out with cash. At the same time, the person who has the cash is transferred the amount plus the fee. Verification of the users also takes place in this use case via the Verimi API, with the transfer is again being triggered via the figo API.
From the same track comes the winner of the Bank Association Award. The Banking Association has chosen the project ‘Dating Scientists’. The team from ppi and dependency.ai developed a dating app that matches users based on their transactional data. Machine learning algorithms are used to cluster information.
